Sony have been putting a greater emphasis on adapting PlayStation properties into television shows or films in recent months, having set up the PlayStation Productions division expressly for this purpose last year. We already know of a few PlayStation franchises that are in the process of being adapted, but as you’d expected, there are more that are in the works that haven’t yet been publicly spoken about- many more.
Speaking recently with Media Post, PlayStation Productions chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra talked about how Sony is looking to integrate its media properties to a greater degree doing forward. He said: “We have a program within the company called One Sony… You’ll be seeing a lot more integration of Sony companies together.”
Vinciquerra went on to say that ten PlayStation properties are currently bein adapted- three into movies, and seven into TV shows.
Currently, an Uncharted film is coming up, starring Tom Holland as a young Nathan Drake, while HBO is also working on a television series adaptation of The Last of Us. Meanwhile, a Twisted Metal series is also in the works. Sony also announced a Sly Cooper animated series a few years back, but there has been no word on that in a long time.
One would imagine that properties like Horizon and God of War would also be perfect candidates for adaptations. God of War (2018) director Cory Barlog has expressed his desire to see a Netflix show based on the series, so here’s hoping something like that happens soon.
